Londonderry Sentinal of 10 Oct.1914 page 8 column 1 shows his promotion to Cpl.
He achieved the rank of Sjt. and received the War and Victory medals 1914-18, and the 1914-15 Star. His Regimental number was 15879 and he was discharged to Class Z on 13th March 1919. ( Disembarkation date 5/10/15 ).
He was wounded and captured, apparently the German doctors did a good repair to the face wound using plastic surgery skills. Listed amongst others in the Regimental journal of Nov.-Dec. 1918 as being released as pow's and returned to England, date and details to be confirmed.

On page 36 of the register at 4/5/1895 he is listed as age 7 last birthday and his parent as labourer and eventually struck off the register on 30/11/1901 when he would have been 14. His school work showed high marks in all subjects.
3. Entry in 1901 census show John living with his mother Sarah at No.3 Maydown. Moved to 32 Bond St. between 1901 and 1908. The 1911 census shows John at 44 Bond St. After marriage moved to 47 Bonds St. then by 1916 to 7 Bonds St.
4. Entry in census substitutes show John Mc Menemy living at 7 Iona Terrace in 1929.
5. Buried at Glendermot presb. church yard.
6. Reported to be a founder member of the Waterside branch of the British Legion.
7. Member of Ex Service Temperance L.O.L. 680 and RAPC 680.
8. Served with A Coy. USC. Londonderry. Listed as Special Constable on daughter Margarets birth certificate in 1925.
9. Entry in the 1941 Derry Almanac lists John Mc Menemy as Hon. Secetrary of the Waterside branch of the British legion.
10. Entry in the 1941 Derry Almanac lists John Mc Menemy as a committee member of the North West of Ireland football association. He had person sources.
